Whitetail Deer Grazing on Banks of Carillon Stonegate Pond

Updated: Jan 1, 2021

New Year's Eve morning. Cold with several inches of recently fallen snow covering the tallgrasses around Carillon Stonegate Pond.

From the forest preserve to the north, two Whitetail Deer emerge to graze this morning. One of the deer has already had its coat turned to winter grey, while the other remains a summer brown. One deer grazes as if unaware of its surroundings; the other deer scans the area for activity. Both grazed for some twenty minutes before moving back north into the woods.

The wildlife make appearances periodically during the winter on Carillon Stonegate Pond. As you walk or peer out of your homes across the ponds, keep an eye out for some of our wildlife residents. Enjoy our nature here at Carillon at Stonegate.

And Happy New Year!
