Sandhill Cranes Migrating South

Wonderful sight to see - and quite the distinctive sound to hear! The fall migration of the Sandhill Crane continues. This afternoon a flock of some 25 Sandhill Cranes were seen flying over Carillon Stonegate Pond - probable on their way to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area in Indiana for a temporary stay. Then they will continue south for the winter. Visit Life on CSG Pond for information on the Sandhill Crane and other birds and wildlife that frequent our wetlands and woodlands.

In spring of 2018, we found a single Sandhill Crane resting in Stonegate West park on its northerly migration.

So even with winter approaching, take a hike and see what you can find – and identify!
